Sadak 2 Review: Alia Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sanjay Dutt Starrer Is As 'SAD' As The First Three Letters Of This Film

Revenge - badla - burns a life-size cut out of a "spiritual guru - Gyan Prakash" played by Makrand Deshpande - more comical (unintentionally) than menacing. Straightaway you know it's going to be a taxing watch in such difficult times. Sadak 2 starring Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Dutt, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Pooja Bhatt has hit the OTT platform Disney+ Hotstar, and we had to take the pains to watch it. The film is a sequel to 1991 hit film Sadak starring Pooja Bhatt, Sanjay Dutt and Sadashiv Amrapurkar. The first was also directed by Mahesh Bhatt and after a sabbatical of 2 decades, Bhatt came back to direction, though now we wonder, why? The story is about Ravi played by Sanjay Dutt, a lonely broken man who has imaginary conversations with his dead wife played by Pooja Bhatt. He's so deeply drowned in the sorrow of loss that he even tries to end his life once but fails. And then there are some bizarre scenes between Sanjay Dutt and Alia Bhatt - and you're like boss, 'Yeh Sadak kahaan leke jaanewali hai?'

Aarya played by Alia Bhatt is looking for a cab and a driver but Ravi has shut down his business. Aarya claims she has a booking and barges into Ravi's house. The film ain't going anywhere in the first 20 minutes. And here I was, still wondering where is this sequel going to take us? Why does Aarya want to go to Ranikhet by cab just a few days before her 21st birthday? That's something you will find out once you sit to watch the film.

Ravi agrees to drive Aarya to Ranikhet as it was the last booking taken by his wife. Let us give you a backstory to Aarya's character. Alia plays the role of a daughter of an industrialist - played by Jisshu Sengupta (last seen in Shakuntala Devi)- who has a stepmother named Nandini- played by Priyanka Bose. Nandini apparently killed Alia's biological mother and Arya wants to be protected from her until she turns 21 as, after that, she'll be the rightful owner of all the property. Very '90s isn't it?

Then comes Aditya Roy Kapur who plays the role of Vishal, Aarya's boyfriend. He receives a typical 'Aashiqui' kind of introduction with an Ankit Tiwari song playing in the background. Words like DARD, SUKOON, etc. make it for a classic #facepalm moment. Vishal happens to have trolled Aarya on social media, but their conflict later turned into love. Hello, '90s again!

And guess what, in this film too, Aditya's character is shown to be an obsessive drinker (seems to be his lucky charm). But subconsciously I realised I was waiting for Aashiqui 2 song "Manzilein Rusvaa Hai" to start playing in the background any moment. Remember this is Sadak 2, not Aashiqui 2!

Everything seems forced, nothing flows smoothly in the screenplay and the script. It is almost like a Mumbai street filled with potholes and bumps. This one also produced by BMC - err.. the Bhatt Movies Corporation! This film is going to be the BHATT of all jokes on social media in the coming days and the meme factory is going to have a field day. There's also a pet OWL called Kumbhkaran. Why? Go figure at your own risk. The film's plot gets bizarre and bizarre with every scene and I can't help but say that the one-word review of the film is the first three letters of the name of the film  - SAD! This SADak is so lost that even Google Maps cannot find it!

Sadak 2 gets 1 star on our meter. It's BLAHWORTHY! Iss Sadak ko bhul jao lekin agar asli waali Sadak par niklo toh Mask pehenna mat bhulna.
